  • I WILL REMEMBER

Back in 1964 a Waikiki entertainer, Kui Lee, wrote a very popular song titled, "I Will Remember You.”  Terry Butler wrote, "I will Remember.”  As Christians, we remember Jesus hanging on the cross on the hill called Golgotha.  We remember Him stripped of His clothing and hammered there with nails by the soldiers.  He was offered sour wine, laughed at, insulted, cursed and given no respect.  We deserve this punishment not Jesus.  In Luke 23:4043, one of the criminals that was on one side of Jesus shouted insults at Him while the other said, you ought to be afraid of God.  Then he said, "Lord remember me when You come into Your Kingdom.”  Jesus replied, "Assuredly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”  Through all of this Jesus remembered that criminal.  Likewise, we should remember Jesus, as written in the songs, living only to remember Him, in His arms someday I'll return to stay, Your perfect ways are holy and just, Your power and might, there is no one as great as You.  So as we finish celebrating the end of a year and the start of a new, let us always REMEMBER in our hearts Jesus Christ.  We will remember You, Jesus!

  • THAT HE GAVE

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  (John 3:16)

Someone once said that everyone knows the real reason for the season, and that reason is commonly known by most Christians; but do you “personally” know the reason why Jesus came?  Sadly, there are many that can’t directly answer this question – even some Christians.  If you have to think, chances are, you may not know it.  I think the main reason there is some truth to this statement is not everyone has accepted the Lord’s gift of salvation – even some selfproclaimed Christians in the religious circle.  To think that God has given the greatest gift known, to man the most undeserving of creatures, is beyond all of our capacity to understand fully, except that the verse simply says, “…that he gave.”  God gave because he loved us.  Don’t let the commercialism and materialism of the season distract you from knowing Jesus personally in your heart this Christmas.  This is one decision that no one should leave to chance.  Please have the assurance of salvation by receiving God’s gift in your heart today.  May all of us take the time this Christmas season to appraise the value of what God has already given us – the gift of salvation from the judgment of sin through his son Jesus Christ.  Merry CHRISTmas!

  • WHO DO MEN SAY THAT I AM

…He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”  (Matthew 16:13)

This is one of the greatest questions a person will ever have to answer for themselves.  It will matter for all eternity.  When Jesus asked His disciples this question, they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”  Today there are some who say Jesus was a good, moral teacher.  But no mere “example” or “moral teacher” would ever claim that the destiny of the world lay in His hands, or that people would spend eternity in heaven or hell depending on whether they believed in Him (John 6:2640).  The only example this would provide would be one of insanity.  And for Jesus to convince people that He was God (John 8:58) and the Savior of the world (Luke 19:10) when He really wasn’t would be the ultimate immorality.  Therefore, to say that Jesus was just a good, moral teacher makes no sense.  The primary reason Jesus came into the world was not to be some kind of moral influence, but rather to die for the sins of humankind.  Jesus affirmed that it was for the very purpose of dying that He came into the world (John 12:27).  It was only God who could live the perfect life to die for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2) and Jesus is God who came in the flesh (1 John 4:23).  So, who do you say the Son of Man is?  Receive Him as your personal Lord and Savior today and truly, truly you will have a merry Christmas (John 3:16).  Praise Jesus!

  • HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD!

Zephaniah, one of the Minor Prophets, prophesied during the reign of King Josiah.  Josiah did what was right in the sight of the Lord by purging Jerusalem and Judah of pagan worship.  He was remembered as Judah’s greatest king.  Zephaniah warned that the final days were near and divine judgment was coming.  He exhorted the people to seek the Lord.  He proclaimed the promise of salvation for His believing remnant.

In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:

“Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak.

The Lord your God in your midst,

                                                    The Mighty One, will save;

He will rejoice over you with gladness,

He will quiet you with His love,

He will rejoice over you with singing.”  (Zephaniah 3:1617)

These poetic verses are a hymn of rejoicing in the Lord’s redemption and grace.  While it is tells Judah about the Messianic Age, it is also for us as sinners redeemed by Jesus His bride, His church.  It speaks to us today, as we follow Him and walk with Him, He rejoices over us with gladness, quiets us with His love, and rejoices over us with singing.  Wow!  How great is our God!

  • LOVE ONE ANOTHER

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”  (Psalm 90:12)

With the end of another year I am amazed at how quickly time has gone by.  Truly, life is but a vapor.  The recent tragedy of the young lives that were ended senselessly reminds us that we never know when the lives of the people we love will end.  I wonder how many of those parents regret not telling their child “I love you”?  Unfortunately, many of us take our spouses, children, and friends for granted.  We may be expressing our love only sometimes or not at all.  I encourage you to step up to the plate and be obedient to the commandment to love.  First, love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength (Deuteronomy 6:5, Matthew 22:37) because by loving God you will supernaturally be empowered to truly love others.  Secondly, do not hold back any words of blessing, encouragement, appreciation or adoration.  Use your words to express your love and back it up with your deeds.  Third, pray and ask God for a tender and loving heart to see the opportunities to be a vessel of His Love.  Finally, be doers of His Word and not hearers only (James 1:22).  Happy New Year!

  • FOR HE ALONE IS WORTHY!

“You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power.” (Revelation 4:11)

So many things around us compete for our attention, but what is truly worthy of glory?  What or who should we give our glory, honor and power to?  Who is worthy of our worship?  Our English word, “worship” comes from the old English.  It was used to ascribe worth to that which is worthy.  The Lord alone is worthy of worship!  God alone, because He is the creator, is worthy of our worship. “You are worthy, O Lord… for You created all things...” (Revelation 4:11).  In addition, Jesus who “redeemed” us makes Him doubly worthy of our praise.  Worthy is the Lamb who was slain (Revelation 5:9–12).  Giving glory and honor involves attitudes such as awe, reverence, love and respect.  Giving power speaks of actions such as bowing, praising and serving.  Worship, that is worthy of our God, is to involve the mind, the emotions and the will.  It must be intelligent; it must reach deep within and be motivated by love, and lead to obeying His word.  It’s at minimum a worthy response, freely offered to Him.  Glory to God “for He alone is worthy!

  • THE BATTLE

“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.” (Colossians 1:13 NASB)

Did you know the video game Black Ops II was recently released with much excitement?  In it we can assume maxed–out, invincible, war fighter status.  We can take bullets and if we die, snap, we come right back.  What a rush!  Why do we plunge into these role player games?  Because real life is hard!  There's sin, sickness, misery, pain and death.  Jesus lovingly beckons us to recognize that there is a battle raging and it's not online–it’s in the world around us.  Sinful decisions reap carnage in our community and on mankind at large.  Jesus promised to give "abundant life" to those who ask and to enable us to bear fruit in the war zone of souls.   Beloved at this time of the year when we celebrate the birth of our Savior, be thankful that someone   recognized your “invisible” wounds and held out the love of Jesus.  Does God want you share this only true “revival shot” with someone you know struggling to find hope?

  • DO YOU HAVE THE POWER OF GOD?

“...I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  (John 10:10 NIV)

In John 10 Jesus promises abundant life, not just a day to day drudgery but a rich life, full of joy and meaning. How to you get this life?  Jesus gives an answer in Matthew 22:29 ESV when he tells the Sadducees, "You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.”  He was rebuking the Sadducees for their lack of knowledge of the power of God.  This is how we get that abundant life.  By KNOWING the Word of God and subsequently the power of God.  This is not to say it will be easy, there will be bumps and bruises along the way, but you will be equipped with the tools to prevail.  And best of all, we don't have to go it alone.  Jesus says in Acts 1:8 NIV, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses...”  Accept this promise, get into the Word of God and embrace His power.

  • PRICELESS

“And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”  (Luke 2:7)

Four days ago I finally completed our Nativity and set it up on the front lawn.  I found myself focused on the manger and suddenly thoughts of that VISA commercial came to mind.  In the commercial, the term “priceless” was emphasized.  A dollar value was given to things, except for the experience being enjoyed, it was “priceless”.  As my awareness shifted back to the manger with child, I rejoiced at how glorious a moment it represented.  Like the commercial, the manger represents a “priceless” experience.  However, the experience was a divine unprecedented one, when God entered His creation in human form.  I considered the decision God made to take on human form and dwell among us.  The One who could have created a castle chose to be placed in a feeding trough.  Why?  The answer is God’s love for His creation.  Sin separated us from God and coming in a human body to pay for our sins was the only way to bring us back into a  relationship with Him.  The manger is overshadowed by the Cross, for the Son of God coming as a babe initiates God’s salvation plan that nails Jesus to a bloody cross.  The essence of the manger is the implementation of God’s love….a love that culminates in its full expression on the Cross.  Consider those in your life.  Have you shared your salvation story with them?   Tell them about the most “priceless” event in the history of mankind – the Creator coming to His creation as their Savior.

  • GOD’S PROMISES

“Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”  (Deuteronomy 7:9)

I love to witness God’s glory displayed in the sky, whether it’s a sunset, sunrise or rainbow. They are all beautiful and different.  One morning I awoke to a brilliant double rainbow.  I ran for the camera and took one picture but the camera wouldn’t take any more.  Needless to say, I was disappointed and frustrated, but God spoke to my heart and reminded me that I am to be in awe of Him and not the spectacular rainbow.  Then I remembered the promise of the rainbow that God gave to Noah after the flood as well as others God has written to us that give us hope and encouragement.  God’s Word is filled with promises that have already taken place, such as our Savior’s birth along with future promises, like the return of our Lord Jesus.  As His child we can find the needed comfort and peace in these promises.  Learn of them by reading His Word and then stand on them because they are truth.

  • GOD’S GREATEST GIFT – OUR GREATEST NEED

God is perfect in His love and abundant in His goodness.  There’s no doubt that the most convincing evidence of God’s love in all of Scripture is His giving His Son to die for our sins. “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:9–10 NIV).  Our greatest need cannot be met without the Gift of God – Jesus said no earthly joy could compare with the eternal joy of our names being written in heaven (Luke 10:20).  Thank you Father for the Greatest Gift of All!

  • THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS

Say it isn’t so!  The YMCA in McBurney, N.Y. has fired Santa Claus.  It seems that the local board of directors has determined that this year, Frosty the Snowman is better suited to represent Christmas than ole’ Saint Nick.  Sorry kids, the Board, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that Frosty will appeal to a broader number of kids.  So Santa is out, Frosty and his side kick Penguin are in.  Not everyone is taking this sitting down.  In fact, some of the town’s people are upset that the Young Men’s Christian Association, now known as the “Y”, would dare to challenge the “True Meaning of Christmas” by giving Santa a pink slip!  Praise God that we know the true meaning of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ!  The greatest gift ever given appeared over 2000 years ago in a modest barn in an unassuming town called Bethlehem. This year, as you ponder that perfect gift for that certain someone, give them the Gift that keeps on giving, just give them JESUS !...Amen!

  • PLACE OF PROMINENCE

Most of us have a Christmas tree set up in our home.  Many families have decorating traditions and generally the job is not complete until that special ornament is placed in the position of prominence – the top of the tree.  While there are exceptions, for most, that special ‘tree topper’ is a Star or an Angel.  The star points to Christ, and the Angel points to the joy in heaven at the birth of our Savior.  This prominent part of the tree reflects our Lord, Jesus Christ.  In a similar manner, our character should prominently reflect our relationship with Christ Jesus, as a testimony expressed in our words and   actions which point others to Christ.  "See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many"  (Hebrews 12:15, NIV).  Merry CHRISTmas!

  • DO YOU HAVE JOY?

“I hate this; I hate that.”  “That person is an idiot.”  “Why do they do it that way?”  “I can’t stand it when they…(fill in the blank).”  Do these sounds like something you would think or say?  Are you grumpy, sad or discontented all the time?  Do you feel like you have no peace or joy in your life?  Maybe you’ve forgotten that your sins have been  forgiven.  When was the last time you woke up and thanked God for your salvation?   Remember that God has saved you from a life of sin, brought you from darkness and into the light.  You are a child of God, and soon and very soon we are going home.  In these times, many are looking for hope, peace, and a little joy.  As Christians, let’s live as though Christ is our  Saviour!  “Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).  MERRY CHRISTmas everyone!

  • DAILY TIME WITH HIM

Many of us in the congregation today are on FACEBOOK.  It’s actually a great tool to see how friends are doing, they can see how you are doing, and still maintain our  multi-tasking daily routines without having to worry about investing too much time into one task or another.  The downside is that you can maintain these friendships on a very surface level without  really spending too much time with them.  GOD loves to see how we are doing throughout the day, and we love to spend time with HIM too.  However, I sometimes find myself spending time with GOD and also thinking about my many tasks that are on the day’s agenda.  Luke 9:23 states that following the LORD is a daily responsibility which involves the subordination of my desires and will to HIS. For this to take place effectively, we need daily time with HIM, waiting at HIS throne.  Please take heed to Luke’s words and follow the LORD for it is our daily responsibility.  If we expect this relationship to be effective, we need to spend time with HIM daily.  Spend TIME with HIM today!!!

  • Wishing You A Very Merry Christmas

  • SERVING GOD BY SERVING OTHERS

May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. (Hebrews 13:20-21)

As the birth of our savior approaches, another year has passed and so has many opportunities to minister to our Lord.  I am not referring to voluntary service at CCWO, which of course is always welcome; instead I am referring to all of the people that God has placed into our lives over the last 365 days.  Sometimes it is only for a few minutes, but regardless of the time allotted, we must remember that as Christians, we are all ambassadors for Christ.  Each person we meet at work, shopping or running errands, is a divine appointment and a perfect opportunity to share the love of Jesus by our words and deeds.  Especially during this Christmas season, let the light of God’s love shine through your actions and show the world around us that we serve a living and loving God…. Amen!   ̴ Ron Sciulli

A fire can be started several ways: naturally, intentionally and accidentally. A fire left unattended can easily become out of control. A fire out of control is difficult to extinguish and may cause a lot of damage or even death. The strength of the fire is its fuel, starve it and you can take its life.
Sin is a lot like fire, left unattended it will spiral out of control, which results in pain and damage that will lead to death (Romans 6).
Galatians 5:16 tells us, "Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."  This passage can have both a corrective and a preventive benefit in a Christian's life.  A consistent  intake and putting into practice of God's word will keep us in a    preventive mode from sin.
Remember, if you "Walk in the Spirit," you'll take away the element that fuels life into sin. Think about it…                                                                                                                     ̴ Hendrik Feliciano
