“And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”  (Luke 2:7)

Four days ago I finally completed our Nativity and set it up on the front lawn.  I found myself focused on the manger and suddenly thoughts of that VISA commercial came to mind.  In the commercial, the term “priceless” was emphasized.  A dollar value was given to things, except for the experience being enjoyed, it was “priceless”.  As my awareness shifted back to the manger with child, I rejoiced at how glorious a moment it represented.  Like the commercial, the manger represents a “priceless” experience.  However, the experience was a divine unprecedented one, when God entered His creation in human form.  I considered the decision God made to take on human form and dwell among us.  The One who could have created a castle chose to be placed in a feeding trough.  Why?  The answer is God’s love for His creation.  Sin separated us from God and coming in a human body to pay for our sins was the only way to bring us back into a  relationship with Him.  The manger is overshadowed by the Cross, for the Son of God coming as a babe initiates God’s salvation plan that nails Jesus to a bloody cross.  The essence of the manger is the implementation of God’s love….a love that culminates in its full expression on the Cross.  Consider those in your life.  Have you shared your salvation story with them?   Tell them about the most “priceless” event in the history of mankind – the Creator coming to His creation as their Savior.

“Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”  (Deuteronomy 7:9)

I love to witness God’s glory displayed in the sky, whether it’s a sunset, sunrise or rainbow. They are all beautiful and different.  One morning I awoke to a brilliant double rainbow.  I ran for the camera and took one picture but the camera wouldn’t take any more.  Needless to say, I was disappointed and frustrated, but God spoke to my heart and reminded me that I am to be in awe of Him and not the spectacular rainbow.  Then I remembered the promise of the rainbow that God gave to Noah after the flood as well as others God has written to us that give us hope and encouragement.  God’s Word is filled with promises that have already taken place, such as our Savior’s birth along with future promises, like the return of our Lord Jesus.  As His child we can find the needed comfort and peace in these promises.  Learn of them by reading His Word and then stand on them because they are truth.

God is perfect in His love and abundant in His goodness.  There’s no doubt that the most convincing evidence of God’s love in all of Scripture is His giving His Son to die for our sins. “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:9–10 NIV).  Our greatest need cannot be met without the Gift of God – Jesus said no earthly joy could compare with the eternal joy of our names being written in heaven (Luke 10:20).  Thank you Father for the Greatest Gift of All!

Say it isn’t so!  The YMCA in McBurney, N.Y. has fired Santa Claus.  It seems that the local board of directors has determined that this year, Frosty the Snowman is better suited to represent Christmas than ole’ Saint Nick.  Sorry kids, the Board, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that Frosty will appeal to a broader number of kids.  So Santa is out, Frosty and his side kick Penguin are in.  Not everyone is taking this sitting down.  In fact, some of the town’s people are upset that the Young Men’s Christian Association, now known as the “Y”, would dare to challenge the “True Meaning of Christmas” by giving Santa a pink slip!  Praise God that we know the true meaning of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ!  The greatest gift ever given appeared over 2000 years ago in a modest barn in an unassuming town called Bethlehem. This year, as you ponder that perfect gift for that certain someone, give them the Gift that keeps on giving, just give them JESUS !...Amen!

Most of us have a Christmas tree set up in our home.  Many families have decorating traditions and generally the job is not complete until that special ornament is placed in the position of prominence – the top of the tree.  While there are exceptions, for most, that special ‘tree topper’ is a Star or an Angel.  The star points to Christ, and the Angel points to the joy in heaven at the birth of our Savior.  This prominent part of the tree reflects our Lord, Jesus Christ.  In a similar manner, our character should prominently reflect our relationship with Christ Jesus, as a testimony expressed in our words and   actions which point others to Christ.  "See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many"  (Hebrews 12:15, NIV).  Merry CHRISTmas!

“I hate this; I hate that.”  “That person is an idiot.”  “Why do they do it that way?”  “I can’t stand it when they…(fill in the blank).”  Do these sounds like something you would think or say?  Are you grumpy, sad or discontented all the time?  Do you feel like you have no peace or joy in your life?  Maybe you’ve forgotten that your sins have been  forgiven.  When was the last time you woke up and thanked God for your salvation?   Remember that God has saved you from a life of sin, brought you from darkness and into the light.  You are a child of God, and soon and very soon we are going home.  In these times, many are looking for hope, peace, and a little joy.  As Christians, let’s live as though Christ is our  Saviour!  “Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).  MERRY CHRISTmas everyone!

Many of us in the congregation today are on FACEBOOK.  It’s actually a great tool to see how friends are doing, they can see how you are doing, and still maintain our  multi-tasking daily routines without having to worry about investing too much time into one task or another.  The downside is that you can maintain these friendships on a very surface level without  really spending too much time with them.  GOD loves to see how we are doing throughout the day, and we love to spend time with HIM too.  However, I sometimes find myself spending time with GOD and also thinking about my many tasks that are on the day’s agenda.  Luke 9:23 states that following the LORD is a daily responsibility which involves the subordination of my desires and will to HIS. For this to take place effectively, we need daily time with HIM, waiting at HIS throne.  Please take heed to Luke’s words and follow the LORD for it is our daily responsibility.  If we expect this relationship to be effective, we need to spend time with HIM daily.  Spend TIME with HIM today!!!

May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. (Hebrews 13:20-21)

As the birth of our savior approaches, another year has passed and so has many opportunities to minister to our Lord.  I am not referring to voluntary service at CCWO, which of course is always welcome; instead I am referring to all of the people that God has placed into our lives over the last 365 days.  Sometimes it is only for a few minutes, but regardless of the time allotted, we must remember that as Christians, we are all ambassadors for Christ.  Each person we meet at work, shopping or running errands, is a divine appointment and a perfect opportunity to share the love of Jesus by our words and deeds.  Especially during this Christmas season, let the light of God’s love shine through your actions and show the world around us that we serve a living and loving God…. Amen!   ̴ Ron Sciulli

PREVENTIVE MODE

A fire can be started several ways: naturally, intentionally and accidentally. A fire left unattended can easily become out of control. A fire out of control is difficult to extinguish and may cause a lot of damage or even death. The strength of the fire is its fuel, starve it and you can take its life.
Sin is a lot like fire, left unattended it will spiral out of control, which results in pain and damage that will lead to death (Romans 6).
Galatians 5:16 tells us, "Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."  This passage can have both a corrective and a preventive benefit in a Christian's life.  A consistent  intake and putting into practice of God's word will keep us in a    preventive mode from sin.
Remember, if you "Walk in the Spirit," you'll take away the element that fuels life into sin. Think about it…                                                                                                                     ̴ Hendrik Feliciano
