“When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.”- 2 Timothy 1:5

Paul reminded young Timothy of the “genuine faith” in him which was first exemplified by his grandmother Lois and then his mother Eunice throughout the years growing up under their care.  The word “genuine” literally means “real” or “sincere”.  Anyone can say they have faith according to James; but living it is another story (James 2:17).  These godly women of influence in Timothy’s life obviously had such a positive impact on his faith that it stayed with him throughout the years.  Apparently it was noticeable enough to Paul that according to his observation, Timothy’s faith was “genuine”.  Anything short of “real” or “sincerity” in faith as exemplified by Lois and Eunice in this young man’s life would not have stood the test of time.  On this Mother’s Day – as a son, a husband, a father, and on behalf of the many men in our congregation – I want to extend the warmest appreciation and aloha to all the mothers who have exemplified and reflected daily what it means to have “genuine” faith in Christ, not just to our children; but to all the husbands and fathers as well.  There is no way that any of us men who are involved in ministry here in our congregation could have been effective in what we do without the sacrifice and support from our wives.  We Love You All!  Happy Mother’s Day!
