“Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:10-11)

As we come to our midterm elections, we desire and strive to elect leaders who espouse our values and will be representatives for our views and beliefs.  However, it is even more important to consider the most important election first…ours by God.  In the verse above, Peter reminds us we need to first ensure our values, views, and beliefs are in line with God’s before concerning ourselves with others.  He explained how God has given us “great and precious  promises,” and called us, “by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:34).  In response, we should walk in faith, virtue, knowledge of God, selfcontrol, perseverance through trials, godliness, kindness, and love (2 Peter 1:57).  We must have a personal relationship and walk with our Creator and Lord.  Christianity isn’t like Sprint; we’re not saved on a group or family plan, and we don’t get unlimited minutes.  Abide in Christ (John 15:5) first, and then go out and vote for leaders who abide in Christ, as well.
